Suppose you open a bank account at your local bank with the ₹100 that you had been saving over the last month. Your bank balance therefore, starts at ₹100. Then you make ₹60 at your job the next day and you deposit it in your account. This is shown in your bank passbook as a 'credit'.

Understand the Question

Depositing money into a bank account adds to the existing balance (called a credit).
Withdrawing money removes funds from the account (called a debit).
To find the new balance after a deposit, add the deposited amount to the initial starting balance.

Step 1 · Calculate Current Bank Balance

Step 2 · Calculate Balance After a Withdrawal

If a withdrawal of $30 \text{ rupees}$ occurs after the deposit:

Step 3 · Evaluate Negative Balance Scenario

If an amount greater than the balance (such as $120 \text{ rupees}$ ) is subtracted from $100 \text{ rupees}$ :

While standard bank accounts restrict withdrawals beyond the available balance, mathematically subtracting a larger number gives a negative value ( $-20 \text{ rupees}$ ).

Common Mistakes

Credit vs. Debit Confusion: A credit represents an addition ( $+$ ) of funds into the account, whereas a debit represents a withdrawal ( $-$ ).
Handling Negative Numbers: Subtracting a larger amount from a smaller starting balance ( $100 - 120$ ) results in a negative integer ( $-20$ ).
