Step 1 — Moving up
Look at the lift panel in the diagram. The '+' button makes the lift go up. Pressing '+' once means going up one floor. We want to go up four floors. So, we need to press '+' four times. This is like adding 1 four times.

Step 2 — Moving down
The '-' button makes the lift go down. Pressing '-' once means going down one floor. We want to go down three floors. So, we need to press '-' three times. This is like subtracting 1 three times.
Answer
(i) To go four floors up, press '+' four times. (ii) To go three floors down, press '-' three times.
