Solution
Understand the Question
  • According to the AA (Angle-Angle) similarity criterion, if two angles of one triangle are respectively equal to two angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar.
  • In ΔRPQ\Delta \text{RPQ} and ΔRTS\Delta \text{RTS}:
    • P\angle \text{P} (or QPR\angle \text{QPR}) is given to be equal to RTS\angle \text{RTS}.
    • Both triangles share R\angle \text{R} as a common angle.
  • By establishing these two pairs of equal angles, we can prove that ΔRPQΔRTS\Delta \text{RPQ} \sim \Delta \text{RTS}.

Step 1 · Prove Similarity Using AA Criterion

Consider ΔRPQ\Delta \text{RPQ} and ΔRTS\Delta \text{RTS}.Diagram 1

In ΔRPQ\Delta \text{RPQ} and ΔRTS\Delta \text{RTS}: QPR=RTS(Given)\angle \text{QPR} = \angle \text{RTS} \quad (\text{Given}) PRQ=TRS(Common angle)\angle \text{PRQ} = \angle \text{TRS} \quad (\text{Common angle})

Therefore, by the AA similarity criterion: ΔRPQΔRTS\Delta \text{RPQ} \sim \Delta \text{RTS}

Answer

ΔRPQΔRTS\Delta \text{RPQ} \sim \Delta \text{RTS}

Common Mistakes
  • Incorrect Vertex Correspondence: Writing ΔPQRΔSTR\Delta \text{PQR} \sim \Delta \text{STR} instead of correctly matching equal angles: RR\text{R} \leftrightarrow \text{R}, PT\text{P} \leftrightarrow \text{T}, and QS\text{Q} \leftrightarrow \text{S}, which gives ΔRPQΔRTS\Delta \text{RPQ} \sim \Delta \text{RTS}.
  • Assuming Parallel Lines: Incorrectly assuming STPQST \parallel PQ. The angle given is RTS=P\angle \text{RTS} = \angle \text{P}, which means the sides are in an inverted correspondence, not parallel.
