Example 1: A trapezium and a square* A trapezium has only one pair of parallel sides, whereas a square has four equal sides and all right angles. Their shapes are different.

  • A triangle has 33 sides while a parallelogram has 44 sides. Since they have a different number of sides, they cannot have the same shape.

Common Mistakes
  • Assuming All Rectangles are Similar: While all angles in any rectangle are 9090^\circ, the ratio of adjacent sides (length to breadth) may not be equal, so two arbitrary rectangles are not necessarily similar.
  • Confusing Congruence with Similarity: Congruent figures have both the same shape and size. Similar figures only need the same shape (sizes can differ).
